Turkey has officially inducted its first T-155 TTA “Panter” wheeled self-propelled howitzer into service, marking a major leap in indigenous defense manufacturing. Developed by ASFAT in collaboration with ASELSAN, BMC, and MKE, the Panter combines long-range precision firepower with high mobility and advanced automation. Following extensive trials covering 20,000 km and 350 live rounds, the system is now in serial production, showcasing Turkey’s growing capability to design, build, and deploy complex artillery systems independently.
ANKARA, November 5, 2025 — Turkey’s defense industry has officially delivered the first production T-155 TTA “Panter” wheeled self-propelled howitzer to the Turkish Land Forces, marking the successful transition from prototype trials to serial production, according to SavunmaSanayiST.
The achievement represents a major stride in Turkey’s ongoing drive for defense self-sufficiency and technological independence. The project was led by ASFAT under the administrative supervision of the General Directorate of Military Factories (AFGM), with collaboration from key Turkish defense giants ASELSAN, BMC, and MKE.
From Prototype to Production: A Four-Year Journey
The T-155 TTA project began under a 2020 contract between AFGM and ASFAT, with prototype integration completed in late 2022. Following extensive qualification and performance testing through 2024 and 2025, the howitzer has now entered full scale production.
During its test campaign, the prototype covered over 20,000 kilometers across diverse terrains and fired around 350 rounds under various operational conditions. Initial live-fire tests were conducted in December 2022, paving the way for comprehensive environmental and endurance evaluations.
Cutting-Edge Mobility and Firepower
The T-155 TTA “Panter” mounts a 155mm artillery turret on an 8×8 tactical wheeled chassis, combining long-range firepower with exceptional mobility. Designed for rapid deployment, precision strikes, and flexible battlefield operations, the howitzer embodies Turkey’s modern maneuver warfare doctrine.
According to program documentation, “Panters, with enhanced mobility, provide effective, accurate, and timely fire support, successfully fulfilling missions to suppress or neutralize enemy elements.”
This blend of speed, precision, and autonomy allows the T-155 to support advancing forces and quickly reposition to avoid counter battery fire a key attribute in contemporary combat environments.
Advanced Systems Integration
The platform features an advanced fire control suite from ASELSAN, providing automated targeting, ballistic computation, and digital communication links for coordinated operations. Its 8×8 drive system, produced by BMC, ensures cross country mobility and rapid repositioning, while MKE’s indigenous steelwork and barrel technology reinforce the gun’s endurance and accuracy.
Designed for rapid emplacement and withdrawal, the T-155 TTA offers long-range accuracy, multi mode firing capability, and seamless operation in difficult terrain and amphibious environments.
Strategic Significance for Turkey’s Defense Industry
The induction of the T-155 TTA “Panter” signals a doctrinal and industrial evolution within Turkey’s defense ecosystem. It reflects a shift toward wheeled artillery platforms, which are easier to maintain, more mobile, and better suited to expeditionary and fast-maneuver warfare than traditional tracked systems.
Moreover, the program highlights the maturity of Turkey’s indigenous defense production network, showcasing how domestic collaboration from electronics (ASELSAN) to mobility (BMC) and armaments (MKE) can deliver complex, combat-ready systems to the armed forces.
