A tragic car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort left at least 10 dead and over 30 injured, prompting nationwide security alerts. The blast, which occurred near a metro station, set multiple vehicles ablaze and caused panic in the capital. Authorities, led by Home Minister Amit Shah, are investigating all possible angles behind the explosion.

New Delhi, India – November 10, 2025:
A powerful car explosion rocked central Delhi on Monday evening, killing at least 10 people and injuring more than 30 others near a metro station close to the historic Red Fort, one of India’s most iconic landmarks.

According to Dr. Manish Kumar Jha from Lok Nayak Hospital, many of the injured are in critical condition. “Several victims are not in a position to recover,” he said, describing scenes of chaos as dozens of ambulances rushed victims to nearby hospitals.

Blast Near the Red Fort

The explosion occurred at approximately 6:42 p.m. local time, when a “slow-moving vehicle came to a stop” near a red light close to the Red Fort Metro Station, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha told reporters. Moments later, the vehicle erupted in flames, triggering a massive blast that set six nearby cars and three autorickshaws on fire, according to Delhi’s Deputy Fire Chief.

Emergency services received distress calls minutes later, and firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze by 7 p.m., said Sumit Kumar, an official with the Delhi Fire Services. The area has since been cordoned off as rescue operations continue.

High Alert Across India

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has placed airports, railway stations, government buildings, and heritage sites across the country on high alert. Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers around major public places in Delhi, including Connaught Place and India Gate.

The U.S. Embassy in New Delhi issued an advisory urging American citizens to avoid the Red Fort area and refrain from attending large public gatherings until further notice.

Investigation Underway

Speaking from the site of the explosion, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah said he had directed investigators to examine the incident “from every possible angle.” Shah later visited injured victims at Lok Nayak Hospital, assuring the public that “those responsible will not be spared.”

Police are now reviewing surveillance footage from nearby cameras to identify possible suspects or vehicles involved. Preliminary reports suggest the blast originated inside the vehicle, though officials have yet to confirm whether it was an accidental fire, a gas leak, or an intentional act.

Iconic Site Turned Tragic

The Red Fort, or Lal Qila, is a 17th-century Mughal-era fort and a UNESCO World Heritage Site that attracts thousands of visitors daily. The explosion has sent shockwaves through the capital, raising renewed concerns about security around key national monuments.

As night fell, smoke continued to linger in the air near the Red Fort’s eastern gate, while police teams worked under floodlights to collect debris and evidence.

“The situation remains tense but under control,” Commissioner Golcha said, adding that forensic teams have been deployed and updates will be shared as investigations progress.
