Pakistan’s troops and advanced JF-17 Thunder fighter jets took part in Azerbaijan’s Victory Day Parade in Baku. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir attended the celebrations, reaffirming Islamabad’s growing strategic and defence ties with Azerbaijan.
BAKU – November 8, 2025: Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar announced on Saturday that Pakistani troops and the Pakistan Air Force’s cutting-edge JF-17 Thunder fighter jets are taking part in Azerbaijan’s Victory Day Parade, held to commemorate the nation’s triumph in the 2020 Karabakh Liberation War.

Victory Day, observed annually on November 8, marks Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day-long conflict against Armenia. The day holds deep symbolic value for Baku, celebrating the liberation of Karabakh and reaffirming the country’s military and national pride.
“Long live Pakistan-Azerbaijan friendship. Pakistani troops and JF-17 Thunder fighter jets will be appearing in Azerbaijan’s victory parade today, commemorating the liberation of Karabagh,” Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated on X (formerly Twitter).
The minister’s remarks came in response to a post by Pakistan’s Embassy in Baku, which highlighted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Azerbaijan to attend the celebrations. The prime minister arrived a day earlier to participate in the Victory Day festivities, where he attended a joint dinner with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev.
Accompanying the prime minister was Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir, as both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, connectivity, and defence.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, “The two leaders reviewed the whole range of bilateral relations and agreed to further strengthen their multi-layered cooperation in the fields of trade and investments, energy, connectivity and defence.”
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended an invitation to President Aliyev to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience, which the Azeri leader graciously accepted.

In a late-night post on X, the prime minister expressed enthusiasm about attending the grand event, saying he was looking forward to the “grand parade.”
Last month, the Pakistan Air Force had already deployed a contingent of JF-17 Thunder Block-III fighter jets to Azerbaijan to take part in the bilateral exercise “Indus Shield Alpha.”
The DGPR (Air Force) had earlier confirmed the deployment on October 19, 2025, stating:
“PAF contingent arrives in Azerbaijan for bilateral exercise Indus Shield Alpha. Pakistan Air Force contingent comprising the cutting-edge JF-17 Thunder Block-III fighter jets, accompanied by skilled air and ground crew, has landed in Azerbaijan to participate in the exercise.”

The participation of Pakistani air and ground forces in Azerbaijan’s Victory Day Parade underscores the growing defence partnership between Islamabad and Baku, which has steadily expanded through training programs, joint exercises, and high-level military exchanges.
Both nations continue to reaffirm their brotherly ties, grounded in shared faith, strategic interests, and cooperation across multiple domains especially in the field of defence and aerospace technology.
