Salman Ali Agha’s resilient unbeaten century and Haris Rauf’s explosive four wicket spell powered Pakistan to a thrilling six run victory over Sri Lanka in the first ODI at Rawalpindi. After early batting struggles, Salman’s counterattack revived Pakistan’s innings, while Haris’s fiery pace dismantled Sri Lanka’s chase to secure a hard fought 1-0 series lead.

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan edged past Sri Lanka by six runs in a nail biting finish to the first One Day International at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday night, thanks to a brilliant century by Salman Ali Agha and a fiery spell of pace bowling from Haris Rauf.

Batting first, Pakistan found themselves in deep trouble at 95 for four before Salman Ali Agha’s counter attacking 105* rescued the innings. Alongside Hussain Talat, who contributed a crucial 62, the duo stitched together a 138 run stand that powered the hosts to a formidable 299 for five.

Wanindu Hasaranga was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka, weaving a spell of magic with figures of 3 for 54. However, Salman’s calm temperament under pressure and late fireworks from Mohammad Nawaz (36 not out) ensured Pakistan had a total to defend.

In response, Sri Lanka got off to a flying start with openers Pathum Nissanka and debutant Kamil Mishara racing to 75 in the first 10 overs. Pakistan’s bowlers struggled initially, offering width and loose deliveries as both openers cashed in. But Haris Rauf turned the tide dramatically, removing Mishara and Kusal Mendis in consecutive deliveries before dismissing Nissanka shortly after.

Sri Lanka’s middle order showed resistance through Charith Asalanka and Sadeera Samarawickrama, who steadied the innings with a composed partnership. Yet, a spectacular diving catch from Babar Azam in the slips one that will be replayed for days gave Pakistan a much needed breakthrough as Haris claimed his fourth wicket.

Asalanka’s departure shifted the momentum back in Pakistan’s favor. Despite Hasaranga’s late blitz (52 off 45), the visitors fell short as Naseem Shah and Faheem Ashraf picked up timely wickets to choke the chase.

Haris Rauf finished with 4 for 61, while Salman Ali Agha’s heroic unbeaten century earned him the Player of the Match award.

With this victory, Pakistan take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series, setting the stage for another high-octane clash when the teams meet again later this week.
