Quoting TRT News , authorities said search and rescue operations are underway, while President Erdoğan expressed “deep sorrow” and vowed to uncover the cause of the tragedy.
ISLAMABAD (TRT / Agencies) — In a tragic development, Türkiye’s National Defense Ministry confirmed on Tuesday that a C-130 military cargo aircraft en route from Azerbaijan to Türkiye has crashed near the Georgia-Azerbaijan border, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation in coordination with both countries’ authorities.
In an official statement, the Turkish Defense Ministry said:
“A C-130 military cargo aircraft that took off from Azerbaijan to our country has crashed on the Georgia-Azerbaijan border. Search and rescue operations have begun in coordination with Azerbaijani and Georgian authorities.” TRT News reported.
As of now, no details have been released regarding the number of people on board or possible casualties.
Erdogan expresses ‘deep sorrow’
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed deep grief over the incident, saying he learned of the crash “with deep sorrow.” The President confirmed that efforts to locate the wreckage and any survivors are ongoing.
“Our work continues in coordination with the respective authorities to reach the wreckage. May God have mercy on our martyrs,” Erdoğan said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Investigation launched
The cause of the crash remains unknown, but Turkish, Azerbaijani, and Georgian authorities have launched a joint investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
Officials have yet to disclose any information about the flight crew or the nature of the cargo onboard.
